So... do we still need to memorize stuff?

We live in the information age, right? Information is available at the tip of your fingers, at internet speed, right? So, we don't need to memorize stuff anymore, right?

Let's watch this clip from Mrs Abadzi and see what neuroscience has to say on the matter. (Via a post of Wilfred Rubers.)


We have a very limited working memory - it holds 4 to 7 items for a few minutes. That's not a lot. She claims it is important to have some things memorized, if only to be able to search the rest. That makes some intuitive sense.
