Other people judge you on your competence and your warmth

Via Will Thamheimer's blog, I stumbled on a very simple 2x2 matrix that tells how people make their judgment on other people. It's based on the work of Susan Fiske, a social psychologist.

One more reason for being competent in what we do: it's one of the deciding factors on whether other people want to be close to us or not and engage with us.
I'm wondering what the implication are for the group dynamics of competent people. Nothing we do as knowledge workers really matters in splendid isolations. There are few professions left where the value generating performance is done by a single individual. Could this simple little scheme shed some light on what is going on in determining competence at team level?
