There's something to the notion of learning in a series of micro-moments. Over the next articles I aim to be true to the spirit of 'experimentation our way to the future' by sharing experiments with various types of micro-moments in development. Most of what we see on the market today as 'micro-learning' is micro-content. That's fine but there is also more as I've noted before.
But let's start with why: why does this trend toward micro-stuff have potential? Why am I experimenting with it?
The core answer comes from a blog post by Josh Bersin earlier this year where he shares ten lessons we learned about digital disruption in learning. Have a look at the graph below of the overwhelmed learner. That's why micro-stuff has potential.
Maybe it is because I'm in my forties, but all my friends (ALL of them) and me share the same sentiment: we simultaneously love or job and are totally overwhelmed by its demands and expectations. In that context, learning becomes more lip service to ourselves than fact. The overwhelmed learner has 24 minutes a week for learning - mostly informal. So in that context, how can we serve learning as a series of micro-moment? That's the quest...
More to come, bit by bit. Don't be shy and post your ideas below!
